German Visa center in Moscow

On January 14, 2013 the German Visa center will be opened in Moscow.
Let us introduce you the most considerable changes in visa application procedure:

  • Applicants will have to make a prior appointment by telephone or email of the visa center. Its contacts will be available soon on official website of German Embassy. The first date of making an appointment will be January 04, 2013; the first date of documents acceptance will be January 14, 2013
  • Applicants will no longer have to apply for visa in person. An authorized person will be able to apply for visa on written power of attorney without notary registration.
  • In addition to the Consulate fee, the service fee will be required.

The German Embassy will still be authorized for making a decision about issuing the visas. Applicants will be also able to apply for visa to the Consulate of German Embassy by making a prior appointment through the visa center.
Those, who need work, entrepreneur visa or visa for studying or family reunion have to apply to the Consulate of German Embassy by making a prior appointment through the visa center.
According to the German Embassy’s officials, the opening of the visa center will improve the quality of visa services providing.

Russian citizens will soon change foreign passports
Russian citizens will soon be receiving biometrical foreign passports with fingerprints.
Starting from July 01, 2013 the FMS will start to issue new passports for residents of Moscow, Moscow region, St. Petersburg and Kaliningrad region. Old foreign passports will be still valid until their expiration date.

According to Konstantin Romodanovsky, the Head of the FMS of Russia, the new types of passports will be the one more step to the European Union standards. The new passports will possibly let their owners visit Europe without visas or get long-term entry permits. These changes could have long taken into force, but have not been confirmed yet.

The FMS officials say, that the period of foreign passports processing can be shortened up to 3 working days that let more tourists coming abroad.

Simplifying of visa regime between EU and Russia

The Agreement on simplifying of visa regime between EU and Russia will not be signed in the nearest future.

Let us remind you, that the detailed plan for simplifying of visa regime between EU and Russia has been discussed in November 2011 and confirmed at the summit in Brussels in December 14-15, 2011.

But according to Anvar Azimov, the Ambassador at large of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia, the Agreement on simplifying of visa regime between EU and Russia will not be signed in December 21, 2012 at the summit in Brussels. So now Russian citizens, intended to visit EU countries, still need visas.

Single-visa plan of Thailand and Cambodia
Starting from November 21, 2012, tourists will be able to visit Thailand and Cambodia with one visa.

Let us remind you, that five South-East Asian countries (Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Vietnam and Thailand) have long intended to establish single-visa scheme. Now only Thailand and Cambodia has signed the appropriate documents. The other countries are proposed to accept single-visa plan soon.

Schengen visas to Croatia in 2-3 years
Starting from July 01, 2013, Croatia will become the European Union country. After this occasion, Russian citizens will have to get visa before visiting this country.

According to the officials of the Embassy of Croatia in Russia, visa A for transit and short-term single, double or multiple visa B (visa for tourist, business, culture or private purposes, visa for sport competitions or medical cure) will be issued for the applicants. These visas will be valid only in Croatia. The country is also proposed to join the Schengen Agreement in 2-3 years.

Montenegro and Serbia can possibly follow the same visa scheme in the nearest time, as they are nominated to join the European Union.

Applicants for visas will be able to apply to the visa centers of Croatia, already operating in Russia. The proposed period of applications processing is up to 5 working days, but can reach 30-60 days. The Consulate fee will be 35 Euro and 70 Euro for application speed-up.
