From 1 June, Germany will resume issuing visas to Russian citizens 21.05.2021

The German missions in Russia will start accepting applications for Schengen visas from 1 June, according to the official website of the German missions in Russia.

Those who do not currently belong to the categories of persons permitted to enter Germany will be able to apply.

The German embassy emphasises that «the issuing of these visas does not imply the possibility of immediate entry into Germany, given the restrictions on entry that are still in force. As before, entry is only permitted to those persons who belong to one of the categories for which exceptions apply and who can document this».

Nevertheless, this option would allow the applicant to have a valid visa on hand at the time of the lifting of certain restrictions or their complete abolition, which would allow the applicant to travel.

The following conditions must be fulfilled in order to apply:
  • the applicant has previously held a visa with a validity of at least 2 years;
  • the previous visa was issued by a German mission abroad;
  • the previous visa expired not earlier than 01.04.20 (i.e. the applicant could not apply for a new visa during the pandemic);
  • the purpose of the trip is not tourism;
  • submission of a travel health insurance policy covering at least the dates of the first planned trip;
  • signing an additional Acknowledgment of familiarisation;
  • and submission of all other documents normally required for the issuance of a visa.
In addition, it will be possible to apply through the VisaMetric visa centre.
