Vladimir Putin signed the Federal Law “On Amendments to Article 25.6 of the Federal Law On the Procedure for Exiting the Russian Federation and Entry into the Russian Federation”.
Previously, foreign tourists could obtain an ordinary tourist visa in Russia either for a period of up to one month or up to six months on the basis of the principle of reciprocity (based on the policy of their countries towards Russian tourists). Now this principle will not be applied. This means that a citizen of any country can apply for an ordinary tourist visa for up to 6 months.
In addition, the Federal Law simplifies the procedure for issuing visas for foreign citizens entering the Russian Federation as tourists. Now, instead of confirmation of acceptance by the organization from the unified federal register of tour operators, it can be provided a confirmation of booking a room in a hotel or other accommodation facility, information about which is contained in a unified list of classified hotels, ski slopes, beaches etc.
This law comes into force on August 24, 2021.
