Visa-free regime up to 72 hours for transit Visitors of Russia 30.08.2013

The Russian Ministry of Culture has introduced to the Government of Russia a draft law aimed at reducing the visa barriers and providing the development of inbound tourism.

According to the current legislation, in order to transit through the territory of Russia a foreign citizen is given a special transit visa for up to 10 days.

As it is stated in the submitted draft law, foreign citizens transiting through Russia by air as tourists will be able to stay in thе country for 72 hours without visa.

This will apply to foreign citizens coming from the countries and airports indicated by the Government of Russia.

The Russian Ministry of Culture points out that the draft law will help to increase the inbound flow of tourists from foreign countries transiting through the Moscow transport hub by 20-30% per year.

This measure will also provide an increase in consumption of tourism services from 13,1 billion to 19,7 billion rubles and an increase in incomes from hotel services from 3,6 billion to 5,4 billion rubles.

On August 28, 2013 the draft law was approved by the Government Commission on Legislative Drafting and will soon be discussed at the Government meeting.
