Anyone with a DPR or LPR passport can now apply for Russian citizenship 10.11.2020

On November 4, 2020, the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of November 4, 2020 No. 665 "On Amendments to the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation No. 74 of February 18, 2017 "On the recognition in the Russian Federation of documents and registration plates of vehicles issued to citizens of Ukraine and stateless persons permanently residing in the territories of certain areas of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine" and the Decree of the President of the Russian Federation of April 24, 2019 No. 183 "On the determination for humanitarian purposes of the categories of persons entitled to apply for admission to the citizenship of the Russian Federation in a simplified way" has been published.

In accordance with the amendments made to Decree No. 183 of 04.24.2019, from November 4, 2020, not only Ukrainian citizens permanently residing in certain areas of Donetsk and Lugansk regions of Ukraine, but also any holder of a DPR or LPR passport can request for a Russian citizenship.

At the same time, Russia has expanded the recognition of documents issued in the territories of the DPR and LPR: identity cards, documents on education and (or) qualifications, birth certificates, marriage (divorce), name change, death, registration certificates and vehicle registration plates.

Now such documents are recognized as valid and not only in relation to persons living in the territory of the DPR and LPR.
