The MIA of Russia is considering the possibility of introducing genomic registration 10.01.2022

In pursuance of the advising federal law, the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia is developing a draft law, which will establish the procedure for both mandatory and voluntary state genomic registration.

In addition, the department plans to pay special attention to accounting, storage, use, transfer and destruction of biological material. Please note that the text of this draft itself is not yet in the public domain.

Although in November 2021 Alexander Bastrykin, Chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia, announced the need to introduce compulsory genomic registration of all labor migrants entering Russia, a bill has now been submitted to the State Duma, according to which genomic registration will become mandatory so far only for all convicts serving sentences in the form of imprisonment, suspects and accused of committing crimes, as well as persons subjected to administrative arrest.
